Spanish food brand Despana’s third retail location, the first with dine-in and first in New Jersey, incorporates 140 seats, inside and outside. The three-story space lends itself perfectly to the retail/dine-in hybrid – retail on the ground floor, with dining tables, an internet cafe, an outdoor terrace, and additional counter service on the second floor. The basement has its own kitchen dedicated to catering.

Throughout the space, an industrial motif is juxtaposed against the cultural richness of the brand, a dynamic which references the New York locations, yet allows the space to stand on its own. Reclaimed wood floors, walnut cabinets, and carerra marble all work together to balance the raw steel elements, while red and yellow accents appear on the walls, furniture, and lighting. JZA+D also custom designed furniture for the space.
