Located in Princeton, New Jersey, JZA+D was founded in 2006 by principal Joshua Zinder. The collective educational and professional experience of our staff embraces architecture, interiors, product, furniture, and graphic design.

JZA+D has won numerous design awards and its work has been seen in publications around the world. The staff actively participates in trade and professional organizations such as AIA, NCARB, USGBC, IOREBA, and ACSA, along with business organizations such as Chambers’ of Commerce and networking groups such as Gotham Networking. In addition, over half of our architectural staff is LEED accredited.
We encourage green design techniques and products into every project for our clients’ benefit and welfare.

Our Special Projects Manager keeps JZA+D organized and running, from schedules to special events, always with a smile. A Montclair State grad and former figure skater who still hits the ice, she’s also a devoted mom to Annabel and Andrew.

🏆 Fowl Inequity Wins a 2026 AIA Central New Jersey Design Award
Our project, Fowl Inequity, took home a 2026 AIA Central New Jersey Design Award in the Small Project category.
One lot, one budget: a single “McMansion” vs. thirteen stacked homes. Built for Princeton Community Housing’s Birdhouse Project, it makes the case that density is not a four-letter word. 🐦

Joshua Zinder, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, joined Bob Hillier, FAIA, and Chris Farnum, AIA, of Studio Hillier presented “Architect, Also Developer: Achieving Stability, Growth, and Better Project Outcomes.”
The panel covered how architects at firms of any size can use real estate development to strengthen their practices and gain owner-level control of their projects.

At AIA26, Joshua Zinder, AIA, LEED AP and Chris Farnum, AIA, LEED AP of @studiohillier , talked about something many architects think about but rarely act on: developing our own projects to support our firms.
The response told us everything. Nearly every person in the room said the session made them more likely to consider it. More than half hadn`t done it yet but wanted to — drawn mostly to multi-family and mixed-use work, and motivated by long-term wealth building, not just design.
Architects spend careers helping other people build their visions. Maybe it`s time more of us built our own. Grateful for the opportunity to educate and support our fellow architects.
