Firm Profile

Located in Princeton, New Jersey, JZA+D was founded in 2006 by principal Joshua Zinder. The practice functions as a multidisciplinary team that shares sustainable and contemporary design aesthetics and aspirations. The collective educational and professional experience of our staff spans over 125 years, across borders, and embraces architecture, interiors, product, furniture, and graphic design. With a stimulating office atmosphere, the staff is encouraged and inspired to be cooperative partners, good listeners and creative problem-solvers.

JZA+D has won numerous design awards and its work has been seen in publications around the world. The staff actively participates in trade and professional organizations such as AIA, NCARB, USGBC, IOREBA, and ACSA, along with business organizations such as Chambers’ of Commerce and networking groups such as Gotham Networking. In addition, over half of our architectural staff is LEED accredited.

Design Philosophy

JZA+D is committed to a collaborative process that involves, educates and develops a strong and comfortable working relationship with clients, contractors, and builders. Open communication is vital to efficiently execute the design vision. With a keen sense of proportion and style, sensitivity to context and location, and an understanding of sustainability, JZA+D approaches each project with in depth discussions of design possibilities without disregarding the client’s budget constraints. From the get-go, we present computer design concepts that allow clients to visualize the physical form and space. In addition we pride ourselves on understanding the process of transforming our designs into the built environment.

JZA+D believes good design is sustainable design. JZA+D encourages green design techniques and products into every project for the benefit and welfare of our clients.

 

Awards & Recognition

AIA-NJ, Architectural Firm of the Year Award, 2014

JZA+D received the annual “Architectural Firm of the Year Award”. Over the past eight years, the firm has grown from a one-person shop founded by Joshua Zinder to an architectural firm employing 14 full-time employees with over ninety-five years of collective experience. The firm has utilized its talented architects and designers to complete over one million square feet of programming and test-fits for local corporate clients, both developers and tenants. This work resulted in approximately 40 built or in-progress projects in 2014. The firm is also involved in community service and is an active member of several local and national organizations, including AIA, USGBC, the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Real Estate Business Alliance.

AIA-NJ, Interior Architecture Merit Award, 9/2010

Award for Waku Ghin, a modern 8,000 square foot restaurant at The Marina Bay Sands Resort and Casino in Singapore. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has selected the 2011 recipients of the Institute Honor Awards, the profession’s highest recognition of works that exemplify excellence in architecture, interior architecture and urban design.

AIA-CNJ, Design Poster Award, 10/2008, 10/2009

JZA+D was responsible for the award-winning graphic design of promotional material for the Central New Jersey Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Using graphically engaging images to convey recurring themes of sustainability and renewal, JZA+D created content distributed to all AIA CNJ members as promotional posters and adorned the AIA website.

AIA-NJ, Design Merit Award, 11/2006

Quark Park, in Princeton NJ, was a collaboration between scientists and artists/architects to explain their science through art. Completed the design and installation of a large scale architectural sculpture “Emerging Light” in Quark Park in Princeton NJ. Collaborated with the Scientists from Sarnoff’s LED light division.
