As a temporary dwelling, the sukkah also represents the fragility of life, as Sukkot is a time to appreciate the shelter of our homes and our bodies. It is encouraged to spend as much time as possible in the sukkah, at the very minimum eating all meals in the sukkah, and to invite friends and family to spend time with you in the sukkah. It is considered a Mitzvah, or good deed, to have guests commune with you in your sukkah.
The event is a collaboration between local architects, non-profit community organizations, and the town of Princeton to bring attention to homelessness, food insecurity, sustainability, and the struggles of refugees.
